Secure by Design,
Not by Policy
Rivada’s Outernet equips government and defense organizations with secure communications in contested environments, resilient connectivity for forward-deployed operations, and a network architecture that holds up under scrutiny, because it was built to, not certified to.
The Outernet for Government & Defense
The Outernet was built in response to exactly this environment. A constellation of satellites at 1,050km altitude, interconnected by laser links to form a free-standing optical backbone in orbit. No ground-based intermediate touchpoints. No public internet exposure. No shared infrastructure to compromise.
Advanced in-orbit routers connect via intersatellite laser links, creating a genuinely private network in space. User terminals access the network from anywhere on the globe, and data travels from origin to destination entirely over the Outernet — across any domain, without ever touching a ground station or third-party network along the way.
The result is a system that is inherently resilient to radioelectronic and cyber-attack — not because of the policies governing it, but because of the physics underlying it.
KEY FEATURES OF THE OUTERNET
-
SECURITY
Isolate your data streams from public and third-party networks. Connect directly with intersatellite links and without gateways.
-
UBIQUITY
Establish uninterrupted connectivity from pole to pole, across the world’s land, sea, and airspace. Global reach and mobility combine for true end-to-end connectivity everywhere.
-
HIGH THROUGHPUT
Access your private Layer 2 network over KA-band links with guaranteed data rates from 100 Mbps to multiple Gbps.
-
RESPONSIVENESS
Deploy and adapt your own virtual private network on demand, without reliance on dedicated infrastructure.
-
LOW LATENCY
Reach any point on Earth with laser-fast communications for unmatched low latency. Enable real-time remote operations worldwide.
-
RESILIENCE
Harness the power of an optical mesh network in the sky enabled by a distributed LEO architecture.
RESOURCES
“Rivada is building a uniquely capable LEO constellation focused on zero trust networking.” He added: “The combination of security, symmetrical uplink and downlink speeds and global coverage are unique, and we are excited to collaborate with Rivada on how the Navy can best take advantage of Rivada’s gateway-less architecture for innovation today and in the future. As the adversary evolves, we must continue to out-innovate, maneuver, and drive outcomes to support our global Navy Operational Ecosystem.”
